Late Fall Harvest Rosehips

Late Fall Harvest - Rosehips for Vitamin C and Antioxidants

Late Fall Harvest! I love the fall of the year. The colors, the crisp weather, the migration of birds. It's also a good time to pick some things! This photo is part of my rosehip harvest. They are almost completely dry, and I use them for tinctures and tea. I'll go out now and cut back the canes so there will be a bountiful crop next autumn. These roses were "volunteers" and simply appeared a few years ago. This particular area gets full sun all day and excellent air flow which keeps the bugs and diseases at bay.

Rosehips are remarkably rich in vitamin C but that is not their only benefit. They are chock full of antioxidants, are antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-obesity, nephroprotective, anti H. pylori, neuroprotective, antinociceptive and hepatoprotective. They can help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. Rosehips contain polyphenols and anthocyanins, which may ease joint inflammation and prevent joint damage. Rosehip seed oil protects skin from ageing due to sun exposure. They can help relieve pain from osteoarthrosis and surgery. One traditional use has been diabetes management. Rosehips contain polyphenols and anthocyanins, which may ease joint inflammation and prevent joint damage. The late fall harvest is wonderful indeed!
