Devil’s beggartick, Bidens frondosa is a common, annual plant of wet areas that are not wetlands. It is native to North America and has become naturalized around the world. It provides a wide range of biological activity. It is part of the Asteraceae family, so those who are allergic to the aster family of plants should use caution.

The plant contains the useful secondary metabolites alkaloids, carbohydrates, phenolics, flavonoids, volatile oils, phytosterols, polyacetylenes, and terpenoids. These substances are antioxidant, strongly anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, antifungal, cytotoxic, anti-diabetic, and antiseptic.¹

The essential oil is effective against several common bacteria - B. subtilis, S. enteritidis, E. aerogenes, S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, and P. aeruginosa. This has led to research into using Bidens frondosa, which is edible, to prevent food-borne illness.

Devil's beggartick has traditionally been used for such diverse ailments as cold, flu, fever, cuts and wounds, jaundice, neuralgia, hepatitis, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, smallpox, glandular sclerosis, anemia, snakebite, and colic.

In modern times it is used for pain and inflammation, and urinary irritation/bleeding.

Dosing: Tincture 2-4 ml 3x day
