Plantain, Plantago is a plant that grows abundantly wherever people or animals have disturbed the earth. There are many varieties but the ones I harvest are Plantago major, and Plantago lanceolata (ribwort plantain). It is native to Eurasia but has spread worldwide. Plantago is a very effective remedy for insect bites and stings. When stung by a bee, which is bound to happen if you forage, chew some plantain and apply like a poultice. It works wonders for relieving the stinging and the itching. It is used for dermatitis, and small wounds. It is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, demulcent, antipyretic, antitussive, anti-hemorrhagic, diuretic, laxative, astringent and hemostatic.
Self-Heal, Prunella vulgaris, is antioxidant, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. Self-heal is rich in rosmarinic acid, which increases circulation in the skin.
Eastern White Pine, Pinus Strobus, is antimicrobial against a wide range of bacteria and fungus such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. It contains vitamin C, which can improve the appearance of fine wrinkles and also fade age spots.
Sunflower oil is non-comedogenic and contains the beneficial nutrients oleic acid, vitamin E, and linoleic acid, which is anti-inflammatory and beneficial for eczema.
Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It has photoprotective qualities that are very beneficial for skin that is exposed to the elements.
Beeswax is an excellent moisturizer and protectant that helps balance the natural flora of the skin.
