Northern Red-Belt Polypore Mushroom - Fomitopsis mounceae

Not to be confused with Fomitopsis pinicola, Fomitopsis mounceae is the northern red-belt conk or polypore. It primarily grows on dead birch, aspen, or coniferous trees in boreal forests. It has only recently been recognized as a discrete species so studies are few and must be read carefully to see where the mushrooms were obtained as Fomitopsis mounceae is only found in North America. It is used by indigenous peoples of the Cree and Blackfoot Nations for stomach upset.
This genus of mushroom has useful secondary metabolites, including polysaccharides, terpenoids, and phenolics. These metabolites are antioxidant antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory. The various Fomtopsis mushrooms probably offer similar benefits, but we cannot be positive.
I do not offer a recommended dose of this tincture. Do your own research and start slowly is my best advice. It is most often used for gastric inflammation.
