Organic Rose Hip Complexion Salve

Rose hips, Rosa canina or dog rose are the preferred hips for use in teas and tinctures. The plant is a climbing vine that may grow as a shrub if pruned carefully. Rosa canina hips have a good amount of nutrients, are large enough to make picking them worthwhile, and de-seeding them to be possible, if tedious. Rose hips contain phenolic compounds: These include catechin, myricetin, quercetin, procyanidin-B2, and ellagic, gallic, chlorogenic, caffeic, p-coumaric, ferulic, and sinapic acids. They also contain the very useful flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, alkaloids, lignans and coumarins, and quinones. Rose hips are particularly rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. They are known to be used to prevent scurvy, shorten colds and flu, and increase collagen synthesis. Rose hip oil is used to prevent scarring and help reduce fine lines associated with aging.
Coconut oil is an excellent emollient. It contains lauric and capric acids, vitamin E, ferulic acid, and caffeic acid which have antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is resistant to oxidative rancidity, giving it a long shelf life.

Sunflower oil is non-comedogenic and contains beneficial nutrients. It contains oleic acid, vitamin E, sesamol, and linoleic acid, which is anti-inflammatory and beneficial for eczema.
Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It has photoprotective qualities that are very beneficial for skin that is exposed to the elements.
Beeswax is an excellent moisturizer and protectant that helps balance the natural flora of the skin.
